Paranormal Claims from The Cage

The Cage in St Osyth is more than just a historic relic; it’s a place that whispers tales from a turbulent past. While the Witch Trials of 1582 cast a dark shadow of human suffering, modern accounts suggest that the suffering may have imprinted itself, leaving behind a chilling spiritual residue. The chilling structure of The Cage, once a holding cell for St Osyth and possibly those accused of witchcraft, is now a magnet for paranormal claims, drawing both the curious and the genuinely unnerved. Some believe this house to be one of the most haunted in the UK.

The Transforming Face

For a brief period of time, the home was opened to Paranormal Investigators, many of whom have reported your typical claims of any other “haunted” venue. But one of the most compelling, mainly due to the fact that it was captured on CCTV, was that of Debbie – a paranormal investigator whose face seemingly morphed into an evil-looking grin.

One of the group members with Debbie that night had witnessed the unsettling transformation in Debbie’s face. Her face appeared to morph into a disturbing, Joker-like smile, an inhuman distortion captured on the home’s then security cameras. Following this terrifying visual, Debbie reported a burning sensation on her back, revealing four distinct finger-like burn marks and a singular burn mark on her neck, consistent with a deliberate attack. Despite the extreme nature of the experience, Debbie recovered, but the incident left a behind a profound and haunting impression.

Physical Experiences

Both previous owners, and a few visitors lucky enough to investigate the home, have reported to be physically touched, pushed or scratched. These moments have left guests genuinely terrified with some of them, even captured on camera.

Previous Owners Flee The Cage

For years, whispers of the supernatural have swirled around The Cage, fueled by the experiences of those who have dared to linger within its presence. One of the most notorious and disturbing accounts is that of Vanessa Mitchell, a previous owner who claimed to have been violently forced out of the home.

Her harrowing experience paints a vivid picture of a malevolent force, not content with merely existing, but actively seeking to assert its dominance. Vanessa spoke of an overwhelming sense of dread, objects moving on their own, and a terrifying physical manifestation that left her no choice but to abandon the property to save herself and her newborn child. Her story suggests that whatever energy resides within The Cage, it is far from benign.

The Curse of The Cage

The Cage in St Osyth has some that follow the real estate market questioning whether the paranormal claims are real. The home consistently lingers in the listings for extended periods, with its unique historical significance seemingly insufficient to attract any permanent residents. This prolonged presence on the market is further complicated by a recurring pattern among its custodians: a curious reluctance to actually occupy the premises. Many prospective owners, perhaps initially drawn by the allure of its storied past, embark on renovation projects only to be thwarted by insurmountable challenges, often abandoning their efforts and leaving the property in a state of constant emptiness.

This cycle of aborted attempts to occupy the house, has resulted in The Cage sitting largely vacant for the past decade, a situation that has inevitably taken its toll, allowing the insidious creep of rot and damp to set in. It is against this backdrop of prolonged emptiness and gradual decay that the property’s most recent acquisition by Amy’s Crypt offers a glimmer of hope, potentially marking a new chapter for this historically charged and enigmatic dwelling.

Amy’s Crypt Acquisition

In 2025 The Cage was acquired by paranormal influencer Amy’s Crypt, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. Due to years of being unoccupied and unmaintained, the house’s structure has become seriously compromised. Amy has formed a new organization to be the custodian of the home – The Cage of St Osyth Ltd – with a mission to restore and preserve The Cage so that the stories of unjust persecution of women from the past can find a voice for generations to come.
